Our CE program offers a comprehensive, self-paced curriculum covering the core principles and techniques of DBT. Tailored for mental health providers, this course provides practical knowledge and skills to enhance your clinical practice and improve client outcomes.

  • 22 Hours of Instruction: Learn at your own pace with engaging written, video, and interactive content designed to help you learn and master DBT skills.
  • Optional CE Credits: Earn up to 22 CE credits with our APA recognized program.

Course Modules

This course includes all four DBT skills modules in our 22-week program. All modules are 6 weeks long except for Mindfulness which is 4 weeks long. Mindfulness is slightly shorter because it is integrated into all the other modules and serves as the foundation for DBT. Students can start our program with any DBT module.

Module 1:

Distress Tolerance

6 Weeks

The Distress Tolerance module in DBT is an essential part of learning how to manage intense emotions, as well as cope with crisis situations. This module helps you learn to accept reality as it is, and teaches coping strategies to regulate your emotions, tolerate distress, and increase resilience.

Module 2:

Mindfulness

4 Weeks

The Mindfulness module in DBT teaches you the skills to focus on the present moment without judgment, helping to reduce emotional reactivity and improve coping with difficult situations.

Module 3:

Emotion Regulation

6 Weeks

The Emotion Regulation DBT module teaches you how to manage and regulate your emotions effectively by helping you identify, understand, and change your emotional responses to different situations.

Module 4:

Interpersonal Effectiveness

6 Weeks

The Interpersonal Effectiveness module in DBT teaches you skills to communicate effectively, set boundaries, and maintain relationships while achieving your personal goals.

When does the program start?

Our Foundational DBT Skills program for mental health providers is a fully self-paced program. Upon receipt of payment, you’ll get access to our program within 1 business day.

How are CE credits awarded?

Guidepost DBT and TheraHive are approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Guidepost DBT and TheraHive maintain responsibility for this program and its content. Continuing education credits are awarded upon module completion. Please note, no partial credits will be issued for incomplete modules. Module completion includes completing the end of module survey.

What is our approach to teaching in this course?

Additionally, this course is designed to teach you skills in the way you'll be teaching them to your clients. This approach allows you to experience both the learning process and the client's perspective, modeling effective skill teaching techniques. By participating in the course, you'll gain firsthand experience of the methods and strategies your clients will use, ensuring a deeper understanding and more effective teaching approach.

How long do I have to complete the program?

If you purchase the entire Foundational DBT Skills: Practicing and Teaching DBT for Mental Health Providers program (all 4 modules), you’ll have 6 months from receipt of purchase to complete your course. If you purchase an individual module (Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, or Interpersonal Effectiveness), you’ll have 30 days from receipt of purchase to complete your course.

What if I don’t complete the program before the deadline?

If you purchase the entire Foundational DBT Skills: Practicing and Teaching DBT for Mental Health Providers program (all 4 modules), you’ll have 6 months from receipt of purchase to complete your course. If you do not complete all modules of the course within 6 months and you require an extension, please reach out to our Customer Success team. If you purchase an individual module (Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, or Interpersonal Effectiveness), you’ll have 30 days from receipt of purchase to complete your course. If you do not complete the module within 30 days, you will lose access to the course materials and will be required to re-purchase the module to restart your 30-day deadline. Please note, CE credits are awarded on module completion. No partial credits will be issued.
